Like Evolution, Operation Genesis is a park-building simulator inspired by the original Jurassic Park trilogy. This game still holds up well today with fun, Tycoon-like mechanics and unique dinosaur designs based on the original trilogy. The random world events are either in your favor or go full-blown Old Testament wrath-of-God mode, with destructive weather events and sudden outbreaks of disease among your dinosaurs. 2. Bomberman Hero for the Nintendo 64 – As some of you may know, the Bomberman series is all over the place when it comes to gameplay. Some Bomberman games are action-adventure titles, some are puzzle games, and some even have RPG elements. Bomberman Hero on the Nintendo 64 is a compact action-adventure game with tons of creative spirit. The gameplay is unique, with our little explosive hero using gadgets that turn him into a helicopter that drops bombs, a submarine that launches bombs, and a jet that—well, you guessed it—drops bombs. Each level has a distinctive feel, supported by an amazing original soundtrack. The OST on this one will make you think Bomberman pioneered futuristic drum and bass music. 3. Godzilla: Save the Earth for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox – Our favorite nuclear, fire-breathing lizard used to have his very own fighting game. In Godzilla: Save the Earth, you get access to a host of original and beloved Toho monsters, including Mothra, Baragon, Kiryu, and Gigan. Fight your way through an invasion of Godzilla’s enemies, one brutal, bare-knuckle battle at a time. Some of you may remember playing Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, and Save the Earth brings fresh mechanics and monsters for you to enjoy. One of the coolest new features is the Beam Battle. If you and your opponent both charge your ranged beam attacks and unleash them at the same time, your beams will collide. You must then hit the correct controller inputs matching the timing and color of the beam pulses to determine who wins. The winner dishes out massive damage to the opponent! Stabbing enemies with Kiryu’s energy sword and throwing them across the map is just as satisfying as using Gigan’s teleporting body-saw attack. Trust me when I say this is a good one! 4. Death Jr. for the PlayStation Portable – Death Jr. is one of those PSP games that makes you think, “Wow, this is on a handheld console?!” Death Jr. is a grim fairy tale about the teenage son of the Grim Reaper trying to rescue his friends after one of them opens a mysterious magical box during a school trip to the Museum of Supernatural History. Grab your scythe and some explosives, and get ready to send all those monsters back to hell. There are obvious notes of Tim Burton inspiration throughout the game, making its style even more endearing. The characters embody everything memorable about the peak Sony era of the PlayStation 2 and PSP, along with all the fun action-adventure mechanics we remember from that time. This game serves as a reminder of the strides Sony made in the graphics race of the 2000s, and it still plays exceptionally well on the PSP. Browse all PSP games

5. Bionicle Heroes for the Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS – Specifically referring to the Nintendo GameCube version, this game is outstanding. Bionicle Heroes is a third-person, over-the-shoulder shooter set in the world of the Toa Inika as they battle the Piraka. You can play as each of the Toa Inika, using their unique abilities to navigate levels and unlock special loot. As with any Traveller’s Tales LEGO production, there is tons of fun bonus content to unlock. As you enter each of the six Piraka domains, you will fight your way through nearly every type of Bionicle enemy, including Rahkshi, the arachnid-like Visorak, and the roly-poly Bohrok. Each Piraka domain contains a Rahkshi boss, a Titan sub-boss such as Brutaka, and a Piraka final boss. After defeating each Piraka, you can return to their domain and play as them. Once you have defeated all six Piraka, you face the head honcho—Vezon and his beast, Fenrakk. The music is fun and heroic, the gameplay is highly addictive, and the rewards and Toa upgrades are enjoyable and useful. The fact that there are no new Bionicle games like this is genuinely depressing. I’ll also add the fun fact that after you defeat each Piraka, they retire to a sort of Piraka retirement community where you can purchase activities for them, such as building sandcastles, stumbling their way through riding a seesaw, and even windsurfing. If you are a child of the 2000s, this game will scratch every nostalgic itch. If you are not from the 2000s, you should still pick up a copy and play it!
